About

George Mason University is a public research university in Fairfax County, Virginia. The university was originally founded in 1949 as a northern branch of the University of Virginia. Named for Founding Father of the United States George Mason in 1959, it became an independent university in 1972. A multicultural education is part of the Mason student experience. The university supports initiatives that promote diversity and inclusion. Sustainability is one of Mason's core values. We educate leaders, conduct interdisciplinary research, invest in sustainable infrastructure, and promote and support socially conscious entrepreneurship. Join us in solving the complex challenges of today to create a better world tomorrow.
